The commercial element in Tennyson is restricted. The old electricity power station, positioned in a prime location on the Brisbane River, is subject to development plans and is the site of a proposed state tennis centre. Tennyson is predominantly a quiet residential suburb relying on its neighbours, Graceville and Indooroopilly, for its shopping and entertainment facilities; however, the new tennis centre will impact on the area.
