Rhodes - waterfront living
November 29th 2007 08:15
Rhodes (2138) is one of Sydney's fastest growing suburbs with an expected community population of over 7000 by the year 2010 (up from 750 in 2002).
This phenomenal increase in population is largely due to the Rhodes Waterside complex, one of a series of high-density apartment complexes on remediated land and predominantly large ex-industrial sites dubbed the Rhodes Peninsula.
Long identified as a major redevelopment opportunity, the area enjoys a privileged position on the eastern shore of Homebush Bay, out in Western Sydney.
Many new residents in the area, of which 30% are first-time home buyers and roughly 75% in the 25-45 age group, were attracted by the cost of ownership, its waterfront utopia and the superb retail precinct offering an easy convenience with cinemas, food court, childcare etc. dominated by the Rhodes Shopping Centre.
It is this same shopping centre that houses Ikea, the largest furniture store in the southern hemisphere at 26,000 square metres thus attracting plenty of visitors/shoppers to the area every single weekend.
Typically speaking, prices start for a neat one-bedroom unit with water views (from the balcony) at just under $400,000 while many modern two-bedroom plus study apartments can be had from $515,000 - $545,000.
Most apartments offers open plan living, high quality finishes and are located only a stroll away from the Rhodes Shopping Centre, railway station, harbour foreshore and within walking distance to all the facilities of Sydney Olympic Park.
