Live in Sydney for $95 a week
October 3rd 2008 06:52
Sigh... Sydney's gotten to be so expensive over the years. I've just been here for a short time, but even in that small period, prices have done up. When I first arrived, you could rent a room for about $100 a week.
Now, I routinely see ads for rooms near Sydney Uni going for $200/wk.
That's tough for new students, especially if they come from overseas, where their parents might be funding their tuition and living costs.
Man, you can't get anything cheap in Sydney anymore, though it's with some pride that I note that Thia La-Ong still makes a knockout Pad Khi Mao for $6. The portions went small for a bit, but they bounced back with the start of the new semester.
Good luck renting a room for $100, too. Those glorious days are long gone, vanished into the wind like a castle made out of sand, falling into the sea, eventually.
Or has it? I note that Gumtree has an ad for a room in Earlwood for $95/wk.
"Private own room for single person in 3 br.house in Earlwood Marrickville, shared bathroom and kitchen, bus at door, take to city 25 mins, last bus from city 2am., huge backyard so you can make a bbq or play sports, security parking, huge storeroom.
Fully furnished with single bed, bookshelf, shelf, table, cupboard,tv.
Available between 7-12 October.
Price $95/week/person, all bills are included (electric, gas, water)."

Hey, that sounds pretty good. Bills included, too. If you're a student, it's best for you to jump on this low price, because there's gonna be fights in the street to pay so little.
