Lane Cove – NSW

September 26th 2006 00:55
Welcome to 'Better Know a Suburb', I’m going to start providing a general overview of several suburbs throughout Australia, which should help buyers, sellers and residents get a better understanding of their local area and residential property market data. They’ll be demographic information and as well as housing and apartment pricing results. We’ll kick off with my old stomping ground in Sydney’s lower north shore Lane Cove.

Lane Cove, NSW (postcode: 2066)

Property Price Results for the last 12 months:

Houses:

Average Price $1,175,000
Median Price $1,283,000
Change: -2%

Apartments:
Average Price $410,000
Median Price $385,000
Change: 3%

Average prices are the sum of all the property sales results divided by the number of sales. The median price is the exact selling price of the middle most sales price when all the sales are ordered according to their value.

Statistics:
Local population: 25,438
Australian born: 69%
Greatest age demographic: 20–39 years (31%)
Typical resident: Married, of Catholic denomination, living in a free standing house, professionally employed with a monthly loan repayment above $1,500 per month.

Lane Cove Municipality consists of a series of ridges and gullies bounded by the Lane Cove River to the south. Its bushland lines most of the creeks along the gullies which thread through and separate its various suburbs. Almost every part of Lane Cove is within 500 metres of bushland. This proximity defines the character of the Municipality, it creates suburb identity, provides a bushland frame to many views and makes Lane Cove an attractive place to live. The demographic of Lane Cove has been gradually shifting to a younger family orientated demographic as more younger families look for affordable housing within close proximity to Sydney’s CBD and more family friendly facilities.

The public transport system servicing the area is somewhat lacking compared to other hubs, however, more routes are becoming available and the opening of the Lane Cove Tunnel has created a communter friendly way for locals to travel from their homes to the city or its southern reaches. There is a strong community culture and many groups, clubs and organizations to suit a variety of interests.
