The Huon Valley region has a population of almost 15,000 and is 20 to 90km south west of Hobart in the large fruit growing area that gives rise to Tasmania’s claim to be the ‘Apple Isle’. Many of the residents live in the Huon Valley for the beach, the river, the forest and the wilderness, all within commuting distance of Hobart. The administrative centre of the Municipality is located at Huonville from where a full range of local Government services is administered.
