March 23rd 2007 00:26
The Australian Heritage Places Inventory contains summary information about places listed in State, Territory and Commonwealth Heritage Registers.The Inventory contains summary information about places listed in all State, Territory and Commonwealth heritage registers. So searching the Inventory is like searching many heritage lists at once. The search results provide links to each specific Register.
The specific heritage lists that are included in the Australian Heritage Places Inventory are;
* ACT Heritage Register
* The Register of the National Estate
* The NSW State Heritage Inventory
* The Victorian Heritage Register
* The Northern Territory Heritage Register (NT)
* State Heritage Register (South Australia)
* Queensland Heritage Register
* Heritage Places Database (Western Australia)
* Tasmanian Heritage Register
If you believe that your property is heritage listed or have been told that it is protected but can't find it on the Invetory then there are other avenues to persuit. It may be listed by your local council or the National Trust or other list that is not included in the Inventory. Alternatively, it may be a smaller part of a conservation area, heritage precinct or large natural area. The other possibility is that it is an Indigenous heritage place and information is restricted. It should be noted that Indigenous places entered in the Register of the National Estate are not listed on the Inventory.
