Healesville
December 1st 2006 00:26
Healesville is nestled at the base of the Great Dividing Range as it rises from the Yarra Valley to begin its journey up the east coast of Australia. It was a haven for travelers of yesteryear and is once again emerging as one of the key destinations and an attraction in its own right for travelers to the Yarra Valley. The more obvious delights of the Yarra Valley include a myriad of vineyards and the associated cellar doors and eateries which are little more than a stones throw from the comforts of our town centre. In themselves the wineries offer more opportunity than even the most seasoned traveler could sample fully in a month of Sundays and so more and more city folk are choosing Healesville and the greater Yarra Valley as their permanent home.

The township itself offers a wide variety of quality eateries and pubs that offer a constant stream of live entertainment to supplement the now established tradition of concerts in the vineyards. Picnic spots in the immediate vicinity of town include the Maroondah Dam reserve and the Badger Weir park while Donnellys Weir offers not only a great spot for a quiet lunch but is also the beginning of the Bicentennial National Trail which reaches to Cooktown in Far North Queensland.
With new construction going on to create an in town cellar door/winery and new tourist bakery similar to the one in Beechworth and the wineries throughout the area continuing to develop, the future is certainly bright for Healesville and the greater Yarra Valley.
