October 19th 2007 13:00
Located in the North of Canberra City is the district of Gungahlin comprising of 9 suburbs with a population of 31,656 (up from 23,565 in 2001) recorded at the 2006 Census.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the bustling district is one of the fastest growing suburbs in Canberra with between 2,000 and 4,000 people moving into the area since 2001.
The increase in population is due to a sharp increase in multi-storey residential apartments and the extensive development plans for the area.
When planned development finishes, there will be approximately 20 suburbs in Gungahlin.
There are currently 9 suburbs and they are:
Amaroo
Ngunnawal
Nicholls
Palmerston
Mitchell
Hall
Gold Creek
Harrison
Forde
Ngunnawal is the largest suburb with a population of 8,939 (2006 Census).
Buying or renting in this area opens the door to a retailing, commercial and residential centre unlike any other in the ACT.

I was there in 1984, when this suburb was being put together (added) ... how things change... Having left CBR in '85 ... I almost fell over at the population figures!
*laughs*
As far as living in Canberra goes, ther are worse suburbs (or ends of town to live in) *chuckle* not mentioning any.. okay?

I drove into Gungahlin earlier this year and almost got lost (I was last in that area in 03')! That's how much things have changed in that area.
I was mighty impressed with the developments though.
Thanks for stopping by Lilla.
