Campsie, NSW

Campsie Childhood Center

Campsie is a forgotten place in Sydney, a suburb in the west that's too far to be considered Inner West, but too close to the city to be a pleasingly remote suburb.

It floods with traffic everyday as commuters rush through the suburb on their way home; hardly anyone looks at the surrounding to appreciate what Campsie is - a rare gem in Sydney.

From Wikipedia:

"Campsie is a suburb in south-western Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Campsie is located 13 kilometres south-west of the Sydney central business district, on the southern bank of the Cooks River. Campsie is the commercial and administrative centre of the City of Canterbury."

Campsie is a center of Asian commerce, the collision of Cantonese and Korean cuisine and shopping along the main street at unbeatable prices. I've taken my friends several times for Korean BBQ, a deal so good it makes the Korean along Liverpool look like last week's lunch, but at much more satisfying prices.

Bizarrely, there's also a Spanish video store, called 'Tutti Frutti', which indicates the wonder of the Western suburbs... only here can the rent be cheap enough for a variety of businesses to thrive.

I'd never call it a beautiful place, though I suspect there are moments of rare beauty - as there seem to be in all nooks of Sydney - I've only been there at night, and a strange mood encompasses it roughly. The flickering lights of neon signs clashes with the dark streets, potentially haunted or roamed by malevolent stalkers. It's a strange frontier, Campsie, with it's own train station, but one often passed by on the way to somewhere further out.

Housing in Campsie is relatively cheap; rent is low, suitable for students, though the commute can be rather tedious. Canterbury Road runs through the area, pushing traffic to and from Bankstown, making Campsie the rushed-by elbow of Canterbury Council, a suburb neglected and prosperous in it's own little delicious bubble.

Purchasing a home in Campsie is very reasonable, with spacious homes available for relatively low prices, especially for Sydney. Check out the available homes in Campsie, NSW.
