Buying property in Glebe, NSW
January 28th 2008 08:22
The above image is of Glebe Markets, a weekly market that has proved to be very popular among Sydney residents.
Indeed, Glebe represents an area of Sydney that has kept its flavour in the minds of Sydneysiders, with cafes and specialty shops, specializing in naturalistic healing and consumables.
Things have changed as the city has been built up. Once a destination for residents and shoppers, Glebe Point Road has faltered in years, becoming worn down and dilapidated... many blame the existence of the Broadway Shopping Center... built originally as three stories, but now extended to four, the Broadway Shopping Center is a much more convenient commerical destination, leaving people to wonder, why bother with Glebe?
Well, the area is not going down without a fight.... the city of Sydney recognizes the potential of the area as a hub of activity, and is spending millions of dollars to upgrade Glebe Point Road, making it more accessible.
Additionally, the Valhalla Theatre, a popular alternative theatre that had been shut down, iss being renovated and brought back to life, along with office space and a cafe.
It seems, then, that Glebe is a particularly interesting area to buy into at the moment...
The area is bordered to the north by Blackwattle Bay, a mess of cranes and ships, but when the sun's out, and the water sparkles on Jubilee Park, people look happy here.
