It's got more vines than the tourist-trap Hunter Valley, but with far fewer tourists, making Mudgee a little haven 3.5 hours away from Sydney.
Wine isn't the only produce in town... the outskirts of Mudgee are perfect for fantastic honey, olives, beef and produce - I had some of the most exquisite tomatoes that I've ever had in my life in Mudgee.
Property prices in Mudgee are, according to Wikipedia, the second highest west of the Dividing Range, the first being the Bathurst region.
"Mudgee also has the second highest median house price west of the great dividing range of $236 500, compared with Bathurst at $236 700."
But one look at Mudgee, and you might find yourself wishing that you could move there... start a hobby winery or a farm, take in that fresh mountain air and never face another Sydney traffic jam again.
Yes, it's a good life.
