Busselton, WA

December 19th 2006 02:06
The town of Busselton is situated approximately 220km south of Perth or a comfortable 2½ hours drive, and as such has become the most popular holiday destination outside the Perth metropolitan area. It is the gateway to the many attractions and towns in the South West of the State.

The Shire covers an area of 1454 square kilometres and has much to offer visitors who can either enjoy the waters of Geographe Bay or explore the inland regions with its unspoilt bushland, caves, wildflowers and world famous vineyards and wineries.
Moderate weather conditions are enjoyed with an average maximum temperature of 22.1 degrees C and a minimum of 11.1 degrees C. Busselton is one of the earliest settlements in WA, having been settled in 1834 with the original townsite planned for Wonnerup. This area was considered too wet and low lying and the Surveyor General of the day (Lieutenant Bunbury) recommended the present area.
